ARAB TOXICOLOGY
Description:
The 1st Toxicology Interactive Competition in Eastern Province, in which brilliant students of pharmacy and medicine from all Arab universities compete and test their knowledge in the field of toxicology. It will be held for the third year after the successful last two years of competition on KSAPT 2021 with the participation of nine Saudi universities and on KSAPT 2022 with the participation of twenty-five Arab and Saudi universities.
Who can participate?
This regional competition will be for Senior Undergraduate students (preferably last one or two years) of medical colleges (Pharmacy Medicine and Applied Sciences).

- Each university will nominate one group (team).
How can I win?
There will be three rounds; the direct elimination system will establish the first two rounds. The final round will be a face-to-face competition between the best three teams to determine the winner.

All communication during the competition will be delivered in English.
Target group:
- Senior Undergraduate Pharmacy students
- Senior Undergraduate Medical students
- Senior Undergraduate students of applied sciences college
- Senior Undergraduate students of the College of Nursing
Conditions and Procedures:
Teams formation:
- Each university will nominate one group (team).
- Each group consists of Three students from different medical colleges (medicine, pharmacy, applied).
- The team must include only one student from each college (the team will consist of three students from three different colleges or at least three from two colleges)
- Students preferably to be fifth year and above (final and pre-final years)
- We highly recommend assigning one advisor to each group.
2- Curriculum:
The following topics will be included in the curriculum:
- The general approach to a poisoned patient
- Updated antidotes
- Toxicology for special populations
- Analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications
- Food poisoning, toxicity of dietary and nutritional agents
- Pharmaceuticals (anticonvulsants- antidiabetics- antihistamines- antineoplastics- antimicrobials- cardiopulmonary medications- psychotropic medications)
- Substances of abuse
- Metals' Toxicities
- Household products
- Toxic alcohols
- Pesticides
- Natural toxins and envenomations
- Toxic gases (Carbon monoxide- cyanide)
- Basics of Analytical Toxicology
- Basics of Forensic Toxicology
- Communication skills in toxicological practice

Note:

3- Questions format:
– There will be various questions (True/False, short answers, problem-solving, case scenarios, MCQ, etc…)
- Question levels vary between easy, intermediate, and challenging.
- Questions in the First and second rounds will be written electronic exams, while the final round will be an oral exam.
- In the final round, the questions will be (for example) Mcq, short questions, clinical cases and case simulations.
4- competition details
- There will be Three rounds.
- The first two rounds will be onsite written, electronic exams
- The direct elimination system will establish the first two rounds using score and time factors.
- In the second round, the best Three teams will compete in the final stage
- The final round will be face to face oral competition
- In case of a draw result in the final round, a single question will be added, and one team with the rapid true answer will be declared winner, or the question will be transferred to the other team.
